Presentation abstract

DC NANOGRIDS PUT IN PERSPECTIVE OF SMART HOME MARKET DEVELOPMENT

The first smart home solutions started to appear in the market in the late 90s. Over more than a decade, technical solutions have evolved drastically, while the general market acceptance did not follow the pace of the technical evolution. Only recently, the market penetration has been picking up while new business models are appearing. The smart home technology and market evolution is used as a proxy to other innovations to come in the same market segment.

The talk will put yet other technical innovations such as DC (nano)grids, considered as perfectly logical, evident and achievable, in the perspective of the consumer’s mindset. Which mistakes should we avoid to make when defining, designing and launching fundamental technology innovations in (consumer) market segments that are strongly geared towards long term consistency, reliability and security.
