Presentation abstract

LIGHTWEIGHT CRYPTOGRAPHY FOR THE IOT

In less than three decades cryptography has evolved from a niche technology to a mass market technology: today cryptography is present in about 30 billion devices. However, if we want to develop cryptographic solutions for secure processing and communication in the IoT, we need innovative solutions that substantially improve the widely used standards for the current Internet. The key challenges depend on the application: the reduction of latency, the reduction of energy consumption and the minimization of communication overhead of security protocols. In addition we have to find secure and scalable solutions for managing and storing cryptographic keys and for protecting implementations against physical attacks. This talk will present an overview of the research roadmap and the solutions that are being developed.
