WOUTER JOOSEN, KU LEUVEN / IMEC
PROFESSOR & HEAD OF THE DISTRINET RESEARCH GROUP

Prof. Wouter Joosen is a full professor in distributed and secure software systems at the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of engineering, KU Leuven, Belgium. As Head of the imec-DistriNet Research Group Wouter Joosen is coordinating and leading multiple research projects related to software architecture and software engineering for distributed systems and applications. Wouter Joosen is also VP Research of the imec Distributed Trust Initiative that addresses ICT Security.

Wouter Joosen obtained a PhD degree from KU Leuven in 1996 (GSO+). From 1994 to 1995, he was active in Odense Denmark, researching distributed manufacturing systems within the specific context of design and production systems for a steel shipyard. Between 1997 and 2001, he has been a full Professor in Software Engineering (part time) at the Maersk Mc Kinney institute for production technology (Odense, Denmark).

Wouter is co-founder of the KU Leuven Spin off Ubizen (now part of Verizon Business Solutions), where he was the CTO from 1996 till 2000, and COO from 2000 till 2002. From 1999 until 2000, he worked in the U.S.A (Reston, VA), integrating all R\&D and product development activities within Ubizen.  Next to Ubizen Wouter has also co‐founded a number of other spin‐of companies of KU Leuven including Luciad, inmanta, VersaSense and intigriti.

His research interests include software architecture for secure and distributed systems covering sub‐domains, such as, middleware and pervasive services for security, concurrency control etc, as well as object‐oriented software engineering, multi‐agent systems development and aspect‐oriented technology.
