Bio

HUGO CEULEMANS, JANSSEN
ASSOCIATE SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR DISCOVERY DATA SCIENCES

Hugo holds the degrees of MD, MSc in Bioinformatics and PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Leuven, and completed postdoctoral fellowships in molecular and computational biology at the University of Leuven and in structural bioinformatics at the European Molecular Biology Laboratories in Heidelberg. He joined Janssen in 2008 as a computational biologist. Hugo now heads a multidisciplinary team that focuses on the development and application of machine learning approaches for the prediction of the bioactivity of compounds at industrial scale using various data sources. One particular area of interest is activity modeling across multiple partners without mutual exposure of the underlying data. The team is also active in formulating analysis methods to unlock novel data sources like high dimensional cytometry and image-based single-cell level analysis.

Presentation abstract

FEDERATED AND PRIVACY-AWARE MACHINE LEARNING ACROSS BIOPHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES FOR THE PREDICTION OF THE BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS

Eight of the global top 25 pharmaceutical organizations are joining forces with an Imec coordinated ICT consortium. Their aim is to produce superior predictive models for each partners’ biological endpoints of interest by massive scale machine learning across the partners without mutual exposure of the underlying data.
