Presentation abstract

USER INTERFACE FOR VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY

Recent progress on technologies for higher resolution (HR), higher dynamic range (HDR), wider color gamut(WCG), higher frame rate(HFR) and wider field of view (FOV) of displays, cameras and signal processing has been dramatically improving the image quality of content. This technological evolution will eventually provide a virtual reality image experience. High quality image with wider FOV displays will play an important role as user interface device in this field. Besides this trend, augmented-reality experience concept has been discussed in many places with see-through eyewear displays. In this talk, recent progress in display devices toward virtual and augmented reality will be reviewed and Sony’s recent technologies potentially contribute to this field for 4K projectors, u-LED tiling displays, AR eyeglass, ultra HR micro-OLED etc. will be introduced and discussed.
